critics' view

It was always easy to overlook country albums in the 50's and 60's, but Merle Haggard put out great albums from the very beginning. This one really only has one hit on it, but is still my favorite of all of his original albums. The title song, All of Me Belongs To You, Life In Prison, Whatever Happened to Me, Mixed Up Mess of A Heart, and especially, House of Memories are great country songs and fit together better than most other singers concept albums. He made 7-8 of the best country albums ever made right in a row from 1967 through 1971. From Swinging Doors through Someday We'll Look Back and Say, he didn't really make one single clinker.
